It was a frustrating afternoon for Welling United, as they were held to a goalless draw by Southern Counties East Football League side, Fisher in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
The stalemate means the Wings now face a replay on tuesday 20th September at St Paul’s Sports Ground, kick off at 7:45pm, in what will be our opponent’s eighth cup tie of the season, having needed replays to come through the previous three rounds.
Ade Azeez had the best of the of the first half chances for the Wings, hitting a shot and later a close range header straight at the Fisher keeper, Samuel Amedu. At the other end, Oseman Usifoh drew a low save out of Welling debutant goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle.
After the break, Fisher saw a corner headed over by Joseph Adwunmi before Amedu was called into action again to stop Azeez. In stoppage time at the end of the second half, Wings captain, James Dunne, sent an attampt agonisingly wide.
The Wings had the lion’s share of possesion throughout the 90 minutes but lacked that killer touch in the final third, resorting to long balls as the game wore on.
The lads will now prepare for the upcoming replay before returning to league action in DA16 against Havant & Waterlooville next Saturday 24th September.
