Welling United will be hoping to harness the spirit of last weekend’s showing at Ebbsfleet United and put to bed the midweek disappointment at Braintree Town as they host Hungerford Town at Park View Road on Saturday (3pm).

The nine-man Wings gained a heroic point with a superb performance at the league leaders last Saturday, but followed it up with a 4-1 defeat in Essex three days later and Warren Feeney will be expecting a reaction from his side in front of the home crowd.

Welling will be made to battle on without skipper James Dunne who will be serving his one-match ban, while Stefan Payne will be serving the first of his two-match suspension.

The Wings currently sit four points outside of the play-off places in what remains a tight Vanarama National League South table and a return to winning ways would be a big shot in the arm for the Wings as their season continues.

THE OPPOSITION

Hungerford currently occupy 23rd position in the league table in what has been a testing season, so far, with two wins, two draws and 10 defeats from their 14 games.

They come into the game off the back of a 2-1 defeat at home to Cheshunt in midweek – an eighth defeat in nine games in all competitions.

PRE-MATCH TALK

Warren Feeney: “We’ve moved on from Tuesday and we have another game to think about which is the good thing about football.

“Hungerford will come to us with no fear. It doesn’t matter where they are in the league, we’ve got to respect them and be on our game and make sure we’re ready. It’ll be another tough game.”

REF WATCH

Jack Packman will be the man in the middle on Saturday afternoon. He last took charge of the Wings for the 1-1 draw with Dover Athletic in DA16 last month.

Packman will be assisted by Daniel Proctor and Peter Conn.
