Welling United have an immediate opportunity to bounce back from Tuesday’s late disappointment as they host Taunton Town at Park View Road on Saturday (3pm).

The Wings were beaten with the last kick of the game, despite a strong end to proceedings, in midweek and Manager Warren Feeney will be looking for a reaction from his side.

Welling currently sit 15th in Vanarama National League South with 26 points, but with no wins in their last six, the Wings will be wanting to kick-start the festive period with three points to steady the ship.

THE OPPOSITION

Having won promotion from the Southern League Premier Division South last season, the Peacocks are now plying their trade in the sixth tier of English football for the first time and holding firm in mid-table.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, they occupy 16th place in the table, one place below Welling, with five wins, seven draws and five defeats from their 17 games played.

They come into the game off the back of five league games unbeaten, while their scheduled midweek trip to Hampton & Richmond Borough was postponed.

PRE-MATCH CHAT

Warren Feeney: “Confidence is a big thing. You need to go into games with a winning mindset and there’s only one way to get out of it and that’s to make them enjoy it and remind them of what got us where we were at the start of the season.”

Taunton Town boss, Rob Dray: “Welling will be very difficult. It’s a massive journey for us, but we’re on a nice little run at the moment in the league and we’re looking forward to it.”

REF WATCH

Callum Walchester will be the man in charge of Saturday’s fixture in DA16. He has refereed 11 league games, so far, this season – eight in National League South and three in National League North – producing 32 yellow cards and two reds.

Walchester will be assisted by Paul Burnham and Adrian George.
