Welling United are delighted to confirm that Antony Papadopoulos has agreed to a new deal which will keep him at Park View Road for the 2023/24 season.

The 20-year old arrived from Leyton Orient last summer and made 29 league appearances for the Wings while taking in a loan spell with Bowers & Pitsea.

Papadopoulos showed his versatility throughout his maiden campaign in DA16, impressing in roles in both forward and midfield positions, before catching the eye in a right wing-back position at the back end of the season.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Papadopoulos said: “I’m delighted to get it done early. We’ve been talking for a while, so I’m happy to get things done and I’m excited for the new season.

“Last year was my first full season playing mens’ football, so there were a lot of ups and downs, just as there is every season. But I finished the season strong and that played a big part towards me staying with Welling. I want to take that strong finish into the new season, raring to go, so I’m excited to get back started.”

“Next season, I have to level up on the pitch and off the pitch,” he added.

“This has got to be the season where I really make a statement and I’m sure I’m going to do that.

“I’m training hard now and going to be working really hard to start the new season a lot better than the last one.”

Meanwhile, Wings boss Warren Feeney was pleased to tie down the former Orient youngster for another season.

“I’m delighted to get Paps signed,” he said.

“He’s played in a number of positions and has got a year under his belt now and I’m looking forward to seeing him continuing to progress in the future.”

Early-bird season tickets for the 2023/24 campaign are now on sale with prices frozen until June 5th ahead of the new season as the club celebrates its 60th anniversary.
