Welling United would like to provide the following update to supporters as the club continues to prepare for the 2023/24 season:
The process to appoint a new first-team Manager began immediately following Warren Feeney’s departure on Monday with the interview process already well under way.
With the return to pre-season fast approaching, the club recognises the importance of bringing a swift conclusion to the appointment process, while also taking a considered approach to ensure the correct appointment is made to move Welling United forward.
With this in mind, the club will endeavour to have a new Manager in place by the end of next week.
Meanwhile, plans surrounding a change to the organisational structure of the club, including the board of directors, have been progressing positively in recent weeks in order to ensure the club is well prepared both on and off the pitch for the coming season.
The club can confirm that the members of the proposed board are involved with the process to recruit a new Manager.
Details confirming these organisational changes will be communicated with supporters once finalised and confirmed.
While those discussions continue, preparations for the first-team squad’s return for pre-season have begun in earnest. Sadik Balarabe and Antony Papadopoulos have both re-signed with the club for 2023/24, while Will Wood and Lewis White have both been welcomed as new additions.
Discussions are continuing to take place with players regarding their retainment for the 2023/24 campaign, while a recruitment process is taking place to strengthen the squad in time for the new season.
The club recognises the importance of the managerial appointment in relation to the player recruitment process and can assure supporters that the priority is to get a competitive squad in place in good time for the commencement of the 2034/24 league season and we will continue to update supporters on player retainments and new signings in due course.
Finally, the club would like to thank supporters for their continued loyalty and are excited to work together as we approach a new season.
Although there is still plenty of work to be done, the club remains confident that the efforts over the coming days and weeks will stand us all in good stead for a positive season ahead.
Early-bird season tickets for the 2023/24 campaign are now on sale with prices frozen until June 12th ahead of the new season as the club celebrates its 60th anniversary.
