The Danny Bloor era begins at Park View Road on Saturday as Welling United get their pre-season campaign under way with the traditional friendly curtain-raiser against near-neighbours Charlton Athletic.

Bloor’s arrival in DA16 earlier this month has signalled a fresh start for the club and Saturday’s game will give Wings fans their first opportunity to catch a glimpse of some of the new signings which have been secured in recent weeks.

Of course, the first pre-season outing is about getting minutes into the legs with players expected to play no more than 45 minutes each, with the first team being supplemented by academy graduates as well as a number of trialists.

THE OPPOSITION

The Addicks come into the summer in limbo somewhat as they await news on a potential takeover, with controversial owner Thomas Sandgaard preparing to pack up his guitar and move on.

In the meantime, Manager Dean Holden is looking to re-build his squad ahead of another challenging League One campaign. The departure of goalkeeper Joe Wollacott to Hibernian has led to the signing of stopper Harry Isted, who enjoyed an eye-catching loan spell with Barnsley last term.

Addicks supporters will be awaiting news of more new signings throughout the summer as they hope to improve on what has been a frustrating three-year stay in the third tier.

PRE-MATCH CHAT

Danny Bloor: “I’m looking forward to meeting the Welling fans. It’s a prestigious friendly for the club, the weather should be good and a lot of tickets have been sold so it will be a good occasion.

“As far as our preparation is concerned, it’s very early days, but we’ll have a good side out with a lot of players used – we’re really looking forward to it.”
