Danny Bloor takes his side to Hayes Lane on Saturday as the Wings take on Cray Wanderers in their second friendly test of pre-season.
The clash against former Wing Neil Smith’s men will provide a very different test to that of last weekend’s meeting with Charlton Athletic, albeit one that will be thoroughly worthwhile for both sides as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
Bloor has confirmed that it will be a different side for each 45 once again, with the priority being getting vital minutes into the legs while continuing to run the rule over a selection of trialists.
THE OPPOSITION
Smith’s appointment in March 2022 has seen a significant turnaround in fortunes for the oldest club in London, quickly turning the Wanderers from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls.
Last season saw Cray record their most successful Isthmian Premier League campaign ever, finishing fifth with 74 points and earning a place in the play-offs for the first time.
Ultimately, it would end in penalty-shootout heartache against Hornchurch in the semi-finals, but there is plenty for Smith to build on with the fanbase full of hope for another successful season in 2023/24.
PRE-MATCH CHAT
Danny Bloor: “Cray are a really good side and are expected to do well in their league this season so it’ll be a great test and it’s one we’re looking forward to.”
“It will be a fairer test for one or two of the trialists because that game against Charlton was a very difficult one, they were fantastic.”
