Welling United will be celebrating women’s football at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium on Sunday as the Wings women kick-off their season against Montpelier Villa Women 2.30pm), while fans can also enjoy the Women’s World Cup Final in the bars beforehand.
Doors will open at 10.15am with FREE ENTRY and all those who arrive before 11am will be able to enjoy a free bacon roll on arrival before England’s Lionesses kick-off their final clash against Spain, with the match being shown in the upstairs bar, Wings Bar and marquee.
Following the final, fans can enjoy Happy Hour in the bars between 1pm and 2pm as they prepare for the Wings’ opening game of the season, which kicks off at 3pm, while hot food will be available throughout the day.
“Sunday is a massive day for women’s football and, with the opening game of the season coinciding with the World Cup final, the club feel that it’s important to mark the occasion at our home ground,” said Community Officer Paul Whitehead.
“Our women’s team made great strides last season and we were very proud to break the attendance record for any game at this level of women’s football on four consecutive occasions. We want to continue with that level of support and keep that momentum going and hope that our supporters and the local community can get behind us this season, starting on Sunday.
“By offering free entry, we hope to see as many supporters down there as possible to enjoy the day and, hopefully, celebrate a day of success.”
Supporters will be able to offer a donation of their choice on Sunday afternoon, with all proceeds going to support the club and its women’s team setup.
The new-look women’s team will be managed by a new management trio of Vicky Bull, Kim Dixson and Taylor Couldry with the Wings looking to build on what was a successful season last term.
