Welling United bowed out of the Kent Senior Cup at the second-round stage with a heavy defeat at Sevenoaks Town on Tuesday evening.

A lacklustre first half saw the Wings struggle to get going in the freezing temperatures as the hosts raced into the lead with two goals in four minutes.

Daniel Carrr opened the scoring with 15 minutes on the clock, converting from eight yards after being squared from the right, and the Sevenoaks striker repeated the trick on 19 minutes when he netted a near carbon copy for his brace.

Welling offered nothing going forward in the first 45 and were punished further just before the break when Fumnaya Shomotun drilled into the bottom left-hand corner to give his side a commanding lead going into the break.

The Wings did reduce the arrears early in the second half when Ibra Sekajja pulled one back, finishing off a rebound from Abdullah Javid’s initial effort.

But there would be no glimmer of hope as Sevenoaks struck back twice in quick succession – Jaiden Jake-Thomas first finishing well on 57 minutes, before Tyrese Osbourne added a fifth.

A sixth would soon follow via Kieron Cadogan and six would soon become seven when Carr completed his hat-trick on 67 minutes, rounding off a nightmare 10-minute period in which the visitors conceded four times.

With the game all-but sewn up with 20 minutes remaining, the rest of the game was played played out at a rate of knots and Welling will now turn their attention back to the league with a trip to West-supe-Mare on Saturday.
