Tasmin Miah reports from the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium
The Wings secured an outstanding victory as they defeated Yeovil Town 4-1 on Saturday afternoon, inflicting on the league leaders’ first defeat in 14 league games.
The early minutes of the first half saw Yeovil with an early chance as Reice Charles-Cook saved an effort from distance.
Shortly after came two chances from the Wings as Josh Chambers drove the ball through the middle towards goal, before he was closed off by two Yeovil defenders, denying his shot for it to go over the top bar. Dominic Odusanya then played a header from the corner delivered, which was well saved by Joe Day.
The first goal of the match came from Yeovil after 16 minutes, coming from a shot by Jordan Young from the corner of the box.
However, the Wings were fast to react as Kain Adom made it level from curling the ball straight into the back of the net – his seventh goal of the season.
The Wings finished the half strongly as Adom came close to a second as he pot-shot from a distance, but his attempt was denied by a good save from the keeper.
The second half saw plenty of goals as Welling ran rampant starting with two in the space of two minutes from the Wings, both coming from Tristan Abrahams. His first goal came from a cross as he headed the ball and the second arose from a one-on-one, proving to be a fantastic double effort from the Welling number nine.
On 68 minutes, Abrahams bagged another brilliant goal, making it a hat-trick for him. His shot curled into the net, completing his treble.
Charles-Cook made a save to keep Alex Fisher away from getting Yeovil a second goal before the 90-minute mark, while Adom attempted another goal from a distance again as he went in search for a fifth at the other end, but his shot went wide.
