Welling United turn their attentions back to the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday as they host Brackley Town in the third round of the competition (3pm).

The Wings secured their date with Brackley thanks to penalty shootout victory over Taunton Town in DA16 last month after Kain Adom and Tristan Abrahams netted in a 2-2 draw after 90- minutes.

Brackley, meanwhile, secured their place in round three with a penalty-shootout victory at Stafford following a goalless draw.

Danny Bloor’s Welling side will be buoyed by their heroics at Aveley on Monday evening as they battled to a 2-2 draw with 10 men and outfield player Antony Papadopoulos between the sticks for the majority of the game.

Mitchell Dickenson remains a long-term injury absentee, while Taylor Curran and Jack Burchell are also likely to continue to miss out. Will Wood will also be a doubt after being force off in last weekend’s defeat at Weston-super-Mare.

Reice Charles-Cook will be available to continue in goal, with his suspension successfully overturned following an appeal.

THE OPPOSITION

Brackley are enjoying a fruitful season in Vanarama National League North, so far. They currently sit in fourth place with nine wins, six draws and seven defeats from their 22 games played.

They come into the cup clash off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Chester on Tuesday evening in which they were reduced to 10 men following forward Danny Newton’s dismissal.

The Saints are previous winners of the FA Trophy having lifted the silverware as recently as 2018 – surprising Bromley with an injury-time equaliser, before securing victory in a penalty shootout at Wembley.
