Everyone at Welling United were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Barrie Hobbins on Monday.

Along with his dad Syd and brother Graham, Barrie played a huge part in driving Welling United from being a park side to the top level of non-League football.

He was always approachable at the ground on a matchday and always made time for players, staff and supporters and will be very fondly remembered at Park View Road.

He could be funny but he also had sharp tongue if needed. Even up to his passing he was still keeping an eye on results and how the club was doing.

The word legend may sometimes be over used in the sporting world but Barrie Hobbins truly was a legend of Welling United Football Club and his part in the history of the club is huge and will never be forgotten.

The club will be paying tribute to Barrie at the next home fixture against Hampton & Richmond Borough on Tuesday, January 30th.

Everyone at Welling United would like to extend their condolences to Barrie’s family at this difficult time.
