Welling United’s London Senior Cup journey continues with a second-round clash with Charlton Athletic’s U21s at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium on Wednesday evening (7.45pm).

The Wings booked their date with the Addicks thanks to a 2-1 victory at New Salamis back in October as Enoch Muwonge netted a pair of penalties to help his side come from behind to beat the north Londoners.

Meanwhile, Charlton’s youngsters, the current holders of the cup, saw off Cockfosters in the first round with Patrick Casey (2) and Jacob Roddy scoring in a 3-2 win.

The winners of Wednesday’s tie will face Barking in the quarter-finals.

THE OPPOSITION

The Addicks U21s currently sit in sixth place in Professional Development League 2 – South with five wins, three draws and six defeats from their 14 league outings, so far.

Their last match saw them lose out 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup on Monday evening.

CUP HISTORY

The Wings have lifted the trophy on two separate occasions – the first in 1990 and the second in 2019 when they defeated Brentford B 1-0 to claim the silverware.

Charlton, meanwhile, entered the London Senior Cup for the first time in the 2021/22 and lifted the trophy for the first time last season, defeating Haringey Borough 5-3 after extra-time in a thrilling final.

Tuesday will be the second meeting between the two sides in the competition having met at the same stage last term. The Addicks won 4-2 on penalties after a closely-fought 1-1 draw which saw Nazir Bakrin put the visitors in front, before Antony Papadopoulos levelled matters late on to force a shootout.
