Welling United’s 2023/24 season draws to a close with a trip to Arbour Park to take on Slough Town on Saturday (3pm).

After a long campaign of fighting for survival, the Wings have the luxury of gong into the final-day clash knowing that their safety is secured following last Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Weymouth.

Welling’s extraordinary form over the last three months under Rod Stringer has seen them taste defeat on just two occasions in 18 games, winning eight and drawing eight along the way as they ultimately cruised towards safety.

THE OPPOSITION

Slough have enjoyed successful season, holding a place in the safety of Vanarama National League South mid-table.

Like Welling, their form in recent months has been impressive, losing just two of their last 15 outings and they come into final day off the back of back-to-back victories over Taunton Town and Hemel Hempstead Town.

They currently sit in 10th position with 18 wins, 13 draws and 14 defeats from their 45 games played, amassing 67 points.

LAST TIME OUT

Welling came out on top of a seven-goal thriller at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium back in November as Taylor Curran’s injury-time winner claimed a 4-3 win over Slough Town.

After racing into a two-goal lead, the Wings were pegged back by the visitors early in the second half as the drama began to unfold.

A goal for either side in a two-minute period made it 3-3 before Curran’s injury-time header ensured what was a first league win for the Wings after a three-month wait.
