Welling United are delighted to confirm that Manager Rod Stringer and Assistant Manager Kevin Watson have committed to the club for the 2024/25 season.
Stringer and Watson arrived at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium in late January with the Wings deep in relegation trouble. Since then the duo have masterminded an incredible change of fortunes, overseeing a run of just two defeats in 15 league games with Welling picking up 27 points along the way to thrust themselves up the National League South table, eight points clear of the relegation zone with four games left to play.
Speaking after committing to the Wings, Stringer said: “We came in with the club in a precarious position and with the task to keep them in this division. We’re really pleased with how these last few months have gone and, although the job isn’t done yet, we’re confident that we’ve got ourselves in a really good position with four games left and will, hopefully, be able to look forward to another season of National League South football.
“Having spoken to Howard, we’ve been really pleased with the vision and the way the club will be moving forward alongside the fanbase. We felt it was only right to commit our future to next season and, hopefully, the foreseeable future.
“We’re looking forward to continuing this journey. We want to finish as high as we can and then we’ll start building for the new season.”
Welling Chairman Howard Prosser added: “Everyone at Welling United has been so pleased with the job that both Rod and Kevin have done since coming in and we’re so pleased that they have committed their future to us.
“The feel-good factor around Park View Road has been phenomenal in these last few months and I would like to thank Rod and Kevin for their hard work. I’m very much looking forward to the future, working alongside the management team, the staff and the supporters of this club to continue to move Welling forward in the right direction.”
Stringer and the Wings’ journey continues as they host Torquay United on Saturday.
