Welling United are delighted to confirm the arrival of attacking midfielder Elliot Long.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with Wingate & Finchley in 2022/23, netting 10 goals, before a prolific follow-up campaign saw him hit 22 goals in the Isthmian Premier Division in 2023/24 to help his side towards the play-offs in step three.

He links up at Park View Road with former Wingate teammate and fellow Welling summer arrival Anointed Chukwu after the pair hauled a combined 39 goals last term.

Long, who is most comfortable operating in the ‘number 10’ role, gained his first experience of senior football with Takely in the Essex Senior League before making the move to Wingate two years ago and his rise through the leagues continues with Rod Stringer making him his seventh signing of the summer as he continues to build his squad ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Speaking after joining the Wings, Long said: “I’m really excited to get on board. I wanted to make the step up and I think this is the perfect club to do it for me.

“Once Rod reached out to me, I looked into the club a little bit and, after I came to the ground, I felt the energy. I’m excited to play for him and to work hard for him and the team.”
