Welling United are delighted to confirm the arrival of versatile midfielder Ben Wells.

24-year-old Wells came through the ranks at West Ham United’s academy, before joining Queens Park Rangers at the age of 18.

A move to Concord Rangers followed in 2019 before arriving at Park View Road for an initial spell with the Wings at the back end of the 2021/22 season, impressing as he helped secure safety in National League South.

Wells then secured a one-year deal with Crawley Town for the 2022/23 campaign, making 10 senior appearances in total, including five League Two outings.

Capable in midfield, as well as in defence, last season saw him spend time with Billericay Town and he now makes a return to Welling as part of Rod Stringer’s squad for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

Speaking after signing for the Wings, Wells said: “I’m really happy to get something sorted. I’ve been in contact with Rod and Kevin [Watson] for a few weeks now – they’ve been really transparent about how they want the club to move forward and the philosophy. It’s really suited to how I want to play and I want to be a part of that.

“I like getting on the ball and starting attacks from a holding midfield position. I also like to get forward and chip in with some goals, but I’m also versatile, I can play at the back and at left-back, so if it’s needed, I’m more than happy to do that. I just want to get cracking, make some big tackles and a lot of passes and help the team as much as possible!”
