New Welling right-back Myles Judd has said that his new side are looking good and are raring to go ahead of the 2024/25 National League South season.

Judd signed for the Wings in June after spending last season with Hemel Hempstead Town where he made 21 appearances for the Tudors. Following his return to pre-season training, Judd has implied that his new team are working hard in their preparations for their return to league action.

“As you can see by the state of me now, the first week we’ve done has been hard but it’s been good!” he said.

“All the boys, including myself, are sweating already but you can see that they are raring to go for the start of the new season.

“So far the boys have been good to me. It’s obviously nice to have someone that I already know in Granty [Reece Grant] and he has helped me to settle in well. All the boys have been class and you can tell that this is a good team to be part of.”

Grant and Judd shared the pitch during their time at Hemel Hempstead, before Grant put pen to paper for Welling in February. He was signed by current Wings boss Rod Stringer, who Judd spoke highly of when asked about his thoughts on his new manager.

“I can see that he’s definitely a winner and he is definitely the manager I want to play for.

“He’s definitely going to help us as a squad to get results and win games and winning games will get us promoted into the National League,” Judd added.

Ahead of facing his former side Leyton Orient at Park View road later on this month, Judd shared his excitement to encounter some familiar faces, but made it clear that he and his new side are fully-focused on building up fitness and getting minutes in the tank ahead of the new campaign.

Judd featured 58 times for the O’s over six seasons, including their promotion back to the Football League. The right-back also won the EFL League Two Apprentice of the Year award during his time at Brisbane Road.

“It will be good to play against my old club and see some old faces but the main thing is to build up our fitness as a team, playing and getting ready for the new season. It will be a good test.”
