Welling United secured a 3-1 friendly victory at Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday evening as Rod Stringer’s encouraging pre-season continues.
The Wings opened the scoring after 12 minutes in Hertfordshire courtesy of a sweet Gene Kennedy strike from distance.
The midfielder picked up possession in the middle of the park before firing in from 22 yards via a slight deflection – his second long-ranger in as many games.
The hosts would peg Welling back on 21 minutes, however. A ball made its way across the face of the six-yard box from the right, allowing Ryan Charles to slot home from close range.
Come the second half, the visitors began to take control with a round of substitutions seeing Elliot Long enter the field for the last half hour.
Indeed, the hotshot midfielder picked up where he left off from his hat-trick against Erith & Belvedere two days earlier, scoring twice to seal victory for the Wings.
His first came on 64 minutes, poking in a smart finish inside the box before securing his brace seven minutes later with a crisp finish which found the bottom left-hand corner from the edge of the box.
Welling’s next pre-season task will be a trip to Cray Valley (PM) on Saturday (1pm).
