Welling United are delighted to confirm the arrival of left-back Oscar Borg.

The 26-year old came through the academy at West Ham United, before joining Aston Villa at at the age of 18, representing their U23s before departing in 2018.

Borg spent time at Braintree Town before moving to Spain to represent Arenas Club. Following the pandemic, he made a switch to Iceland with Stjarnan Gardabaer and then Haukar Hafnarfjördur prior to a return to the UK with Welsh premier division outfit Haverfordwest County in January 2023.

Whilst in Wales, he played alongside new Wings teammates Martell Taylor-Crossdale and Kayden Williams-Lowe and now joins up with Rod Stringer’s men ahead of the 2024/25 season, playing during Saturday’s 3-1 friendly victory at Sittingbourne.

Speaking after joining the Wings, Borg said: “Rod explained the project and I loved what he said – I know a few of the lads who are already here so it’s nice to have some familiar faces and it’s nice to be closer to home, so it’s a perfect situation for me.

“I like to get involved in the game going forward. I’m an attacking full-back and like linking up the play, getting crosses in and helping strikers score their goals. But as a full-back, your job is to defend and I enjoy getting stuck in, helping at both ends of the pitch.”
