Welling United hit the road for the first time in 2024/25 as they head to Twerton Park to take on Bath City on Saturday (3pm).

The Wings will be looking to build on the positivity of last weekend’s victory over Aveley – their first opening-day success since 2018 – and follow-up with another impressive performance in the west country.

Rod Stringer has no fresh injury concerns heading into the weekend, with Teddy Perkins nearing a return to fitness, while Harvey Walker remains a long-term absentee following surgery for a broken leg.

THE OPPOSITION

Bath enjoyed a positive 2023/24 season, finishing in sixth position, but missing out in the quarter-finals of the play-offs to eventual winners Braintree Town.

The Romans kicked off their campaign last weekend with a 1-0 defeat at newly-relegated Boreham Wood.

PRE-MATCH CHAT

Wings boss Rod Stringer: “We need to build on Saturday’s performance and result – that was obviously a good start at home. Now we’ve got a long journey down to Bath against a very good side that will be well organised and well drilled, so we’ve got to find a similar kind of performance to match Saturday to be good enough to come away with a win.”

Bath City boss Jerry Gill: “They will be a big, physical side like Rod’s side are and they seem to be playing a bit as well, so they’ll be a good side. He knows the league and the level, so does Kev [Watson], they’ve been around long enough.

“But they know they’re coming to Twerton Park where they’ll get a tough game as well.”
