Welling United were dismayed to hear reports of abusive and sexist remarks from a section of the away supporters at Saturday’s fixture at Bath City.

While the club remain proud of the passion that is brought to every game by our fans, there is a distinct line between supporting the team and what amounts to unacceptable abuse.

We are extremely proud of our record of being an inclusive, family-orientated, community football club, one where all our supporters and staff feel safe, valued and respected.

As such, any form of abusive and derogatory remarks will not be tolerated either on the terraces or online.

Meanwhile, we encourage our supporters to use social media in all matters relating directly to the club in a responsible and respectful way, ensuring an environment of well-mannered discussion, healthy debate and opinion.

All social media posts are likely to become a matter of public record and we urge our supporters to consider the club’s social media policy before posting.
