Welling United are delighted to confirm the return of right-sided defender Maxwell Statham.
24-year-old Statham joins the Wings for a second spell at Park View Road, following an eye-catching stay during the 2021/22 season in which he made 30 National League appearances, playing a pivotal part in the club’s survival with a strong end to the campaign.
Beginning his career as a youngster with Tottenham Hotspur, he then joined Watford at the age of 18 before an initial move to Hornchurch in the summer of 2021.
Statham’s performances prompted Welling to bring him to DA16 in October 2021 where he became a solid part of the the Wings’ defence.
Following the end of the 2021/22 campaign, he made the move to Dartford, becoming a mainstay in their side as they secured second place in National League South in 2022.
He spent two seasons at Princes Park before making the switch to Hemel Hempstead Town in July and embarked on a short stint on loan with Chatham Town last month.
Statham becomes the latest addition to Rod Stringer’s squad and is eligible to make his second Wings debut in Saturday’s trip to Boreham Wood.
