Welling United begin their London Senior Cup campaign with a second-round trip to Sporting Bengal United at Mile End Stadium on Wednesday evening (7.45pm).
The Wings bowed out to eventual winners Charlton Athletic in last season’s competition, while Sporting Bengal enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals, beating AFC Wimbledon and Dulwich Hamlet, before being beaten by Hendon.
Manager Rod Stringer has indicated that new arrivals Alex Lankshear and Paul Osew could well receive their debuts for the club on Wednesday, while he may also use the cup tie as a chance to give a run-out to some of Welling’s fringe players who have been waiting for an opportunity.
THE OPPOSITION
Mile End-based Sporting Bengal were promoted from the Essex Senior League via the play-offs last season and are plying their trade in the Isthmian League North Division this term.
The Bengal Tigers currently sit 18th in the table with two wins, one draw and three defeats from their six league outings, so far.
They come into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw at Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.
