Welling United will fill the footballing void left by the international break this weekend as they host Eastbourne Borough at Park View Road (3pm).

The game was originally scheduled for a midweek date next March, but due to both sides seeing their original league fixtures this weekend postponed due to their respective opponents’ (Weymouth and Tonbridge Angels) continued participation in the Emirates FA Cup, it was agreed to fill the free weekend date.

After three league defeats in succession, the Wings will be looking to steady the ship in DA16 against the Sports.

Jack Burchell will be pushing for a return to the starting XI after a recent bout of illness, but Welling will continue to be without Zain Walker, Harvey Walker, Teddy Perkins and Ben Wells, while TJ Bramble is nearing a return from injury.

THE OPPOSITION

After struggling to adapt last term following a change of ownership, Eastbourne found themselves in a relegation battle, surviving thanks to a run of positive results towards the end of the season.

That momentum followed them into the current campaign and they have enjoyed a good start to the season, winning five, drawing three and losing two of their opening 10 games, leaving them eighth in the table.

They do, however, come into the game without a win in three in all competitions, most recently suffering a 4-2 defeat at Chelmsford City last weekend.

LAST TIME OUT

The Wings fell to defeat to Eastbourne the last time the sides met at Park View Road last December.

Two goals from the visitors against the run of play, either side of half-time, ensured that the Wings would be punished for missed opportunities on what was a frustrating outing for then-boss Danny Bloor’s men.
