Welling United return to Park View Road to take on Chelmsford City in a Boxing Day clash on Thursday (3pm).

The Wings will be looking to bounce back from the weekend’s loss at Salisbury – their first defeat in six – and secure some festive cheer against their opponents from Essex.

Indeed, three points for Welling would see them leapfrog the Clarets in the Vanarama National League table.

Chiori Johnson and Daniel Martin will both be pushing for a start with the pair having made recent returns from injury, but Elliot Long will be unavailable with an ankle complaint, wile Harvey Walker remains sidelined.

THE OPPONENTS

Chelmsford occupy 16th position in National League South, two points ahead of the Wings, having won six, drawn eight and lost seven of their 21 games played.

They come into the game with just one win in their last nine outings. Their last match saw them secure a point at home from a goalless draw with Weymouth on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT

Welling suffered a harsh 2-1 defeat at the death at the hands of Chelmsford the last time they met at Park View Road in August 2023.

A blistering encounter saw the visitors take the lead midway through the second half before Kain Adom’s first goal for the club looked to have earned the Wings a first point of the season at the third time of asking.

But, following a pair of red cards to either side late on, Chelmsford bagged a winner in the ninth minute of injury time to break Welling hearts.
