Welling United shared a point with Chippenham Town from a 1-1 draw at Hardenhuish Park n Saturday afternoon.
The hosts opened the scoring after 11 minutes, but the Wings fought their way back to equalise through Dave Winfield before the break as Rod stringer’s men took a point back to south London.
With 11 minutes on the clock, the home side took the lead with the first foray forward from either side, with the goal coming from a set-piece.
A deep corner delivered from the left was slammed back across the face of goal by an attempted volleyed shot, which came off of Hamzad Kargbo and into the net from close range.
The game was proving to be a fairly scrappy affair, but the visitors stepped things up on 24 minutes when they found an equaliser via a set-piece of their own.
Harvey Walker’s free-kick from wide right was delivered to the near post and Winfield was on hand to get there first and poke the ball home for 1-1.
Following the leveller, the Wings got themselves on top, without managing to create much in front of Goa for the remainder of the half.
It was more of the same into the second period with Welling seeing all of the ball as they went in search of the goal which would put them in front.
Some neat play seven minutes after the restart saw James Alabi string a ball through to Jayden Davis, who bore down on goal before unleashing a shot from the edge of the box which flew just over.
At the other end, Caine Bradbury sent an effort wide, before the Wings received a big let-off. With Riccardo Di Trolio slipping when looking to deal with a ball over the top, it allowed Tom Mehew in round the back with the goal at his mercy – thankfully for the visitors, he could only fire wide.
In truth, it was a game of very few chances with a point apiece arguably a fair reflection on the balance of play.
Indeed, the point lifts Welling out of the bottom four and they will return to action on Tuesday evening with a trip to Tonbridge Angels.
