Welling United’s 2024/25 campaign comes to an end on Saturday as they host Salisbury at Park View Road (3pm).
With the Wings’ fate already sealed, they could play their part in deciding who will join them in relegation from National League South and will want to go out on a positive note with a victory after what has been a challenging season.
Chiori Johnson, Zain Walker, Maxwell Statham, Harvey Walker, Deon Moore and Dave Winfield all remain doubtful with injury, while Jack Burchell and Tyrese Briscoe could also miss out after limping off during the first half of Monday’s defeat at Chelmsford City.
THE OPPOSITION
Salisbury are fighting for survival against an immediate return to step three after winning promotion to National League South last season.
Having been hovering over the dropzone and currently sitting in 20th position, they know that they will beat the drop if they can better St Albans City’s result on final day. However, even a win at Park View Road may not necessarily guarantee survival if St Albans also win and overhaul Salisbury’s one-goal advantage on goal difference.
Both Salisbury and St Albans could survive together if they both win and Enfield Town, currently in 19th, lose with Enfield possessing an inferior goal difference.
Salisbury have secured 10 wins, 15 draws and 20 defeats from their 45 games played and they come into Saturday’s game with one win in their last five outings.
LAST TIME OUT
There was no festive cheer for Welling in Wiltshire back in December as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat to Salisbury at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, bringing an end to a five-game run without defeat.
