Welling United are pleased to confirm the arrival of defender Scott Simmons.

The south-London born 19-year old made the move to join Exeter City’s academy as a youngster, before signing a two-year scholarship with the Grecians in 2022, embarking on a loan spell with Tavistock.

Following his departure from St James’ Park last summer, he spent a stint representing Whitehawk, and now joins the Wings as part of Lee Martin’s rebuild ahead of 2025/26.

Speaking after signing at Park View Road, Simmons said: “I feel like I’m at home and this is the right move for my career.

“I enjoyed it at Exeter, I developed a lot there and it’s time for a new step and journey – I’m ready. The gaffer has made it clear what he wants this season. As a player, I want to step into the team, show everyone what I’m about, do my best for the club and, hopefully, get this club back to where it’s supposed to be.

Meanwhile, Martin added: “I’m excited to welcome Scott to our squad.

“He arrives with a strong foundation, having developed his skills during his youth career at both Millwall and Exeter.

“Scott is quick and aggressive and he is very comfortable on the ball.

“He comes to us needing a home now to showcase his talent.

”I am really excited to see how he progresses with us.”
