Welling United head to Essex for their first away trip of 2026 on Saturday as they take on Canvey Island (3pm).

The Wings will be looking to build on the positivity of last weekend’s victory over Wingate & Finchley and close the gap to safety which currently stands at seven points.

Jack Paxman will be unavailable as he serves the final game of his three-match ban, while the fitness of Junior Savane will have to be assessed after he was forced off in last Saturday’s win at Park View Road.

Meanwhile, Ade Azeez will also be a doubt following his substitution early in the second half last weekend after receiving a ball to the face.

THE OPPOSITION

Canvey Island have faced a difficult season, so far, and sit second bottom of the Isthmian League Premier Division table, one point behind Welling having played a game more, with four wins, five draws and 15 defeats under their belts.

The Essex outfit have one win in their last five – a 1-0 home victory over Billericay Town – but come into the game following bak-to-back defeats.

LAST TIME OUT

A second-half goal blitz secured Welling a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Canvey Island when the sides met in the reverse fixture back in September.

After a goalless first half, the Wings sprung into life in the second period with Zac Hambury, Greg Cundle, Logan Dobbs and Jack Paxman’s penalty seeing the hosts race into a four-goal lead, before the away side netted a consolation in injury-time.
