Welling United embark on their 2022/23 FA Cup journey on Saturday as Fisher make the short journey across south London in the second qualifying round.

The game gives a good opportunity for Warren Feeney to keep momentum going following three league wins on the spin, but won’t be taking their opponents lightly.

All eyes will be on an FA Cup run for the Wings this term having fallen at the first hurdle in the last two years and with the first round proper just three wins away, the goal will be to fight through to that stage of the competition for the first time since 2015.

THE OPPOSITION

Rotherhithe-based Fisher ply their trade in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division and find themselves bottom of the table, albeit having only played four league games owing to their cup run, so far.

Managed by Ajay Ashanike, Fisher have come through three stages to reach the second qualifying round of the FA Cup, being forced into replays on each occasion, beating Sutton Common Rovers, Sittingbourne and Spellthorne Sports for the right to take on the Wings.

PRE-MATCH CHAT

Warren Feeney: “We can’t underestimate anyone we play. I’ve been in these positions before, they’re difficult, difficult games – it’s a free hit for them, so we need to make sure we’re on our game.

“We treat teams with respect, no matter who we play, and Fisher come to us in the FA Cup knowing there are always upsets and we need to make sure that it’s not us.”
