Wings boss Warren Feeney took the positives from a frustrating evening at Park View Road on Tuesday evening as his side shared a 1-1 draw with Dover Athletic.
Welling took a 77th-minute lead through Manny Parry, only to be pegged back by a Dover equaliser just four minutes later as the hosts were denied three points from a winning position late on for the second game running.
But despite being disappointed, Feeney remains pleased with where his team find themselves at this early stage of the campaign.
“I can’t be too critical of them,” he explained.
“It’s disappointing, but we’re still unbeaten in seven, we haven’t lost the game.
“It was a bit disappointing, but I said to the boys before the game, ‘this will be the hardest game of the season’ because we had a big game on Saturday, it’s been a tough month and this is where you need to dig in and see it through.
“It wasn’t us tonight – we didn’t have the urgency and the tempo – we looked a bit sluggish and were off the pace. At times, when we did get our foot on the ball, we still had enough chances to win the game.
“Myles [Roberts] was outstanding and pulled off two big saves in the last five minutes but, fair play to them. We knew it would be a tough game. They came at us and had a plan and it was probably a fair result.”
Meanwhile, Feeney felt that it was a lack of concentration that let Dover in to net their equaliser so soon after his side had gone ahead.
“You see it at the top level and you saw it last night in the England – Germany game,” he said.
“I keep saying to them that whenever you score a goal, the next five minutes are the most crucial because because concentration levels drop, people get excited, they go gung-ho and chase balls.
“It’s just game management and it’s cost us, but I won’t be too critical on them.
“We’re still unbeaten in this run and our attention turns to Saturday in the FA Cup.”
