Warren Feeney is expecting a tough test from Weymouth on Saturday with the memory of September’s FA Cup defeat against the Terras providing some incentive for his Wings side for the clash at Park View Road. 

Weymouth lie rooted to the bottom of the Vanarama National League South table, just as they did when the sides met in cup competition when Bobby Wilkinson’s side came away with a 3-0 win at the Bob Lucas Stadium, and Feeney is under no illusion that this weekend’s encounter will be anything but dangerous as his team look to extend their unbeaten run to four. 

“I’ve watched their games lately and they’re a lot better than their league position suggests,” explained Feeney. 

“Bobby has done a fantastic job since he’s gone in there because he’s got them playing. They have no fear, they’ll run around and go for teams. It’s a dangerous, dangerous game for us. We’ll be showing them the utmost respect and we’ll be looking for a response from the last time they played us [in the FA Cup], because they really put it on us. We were not good enough on the day, but they were fantastic and we’ll be in for a tough game on Saturday, believe me.”

Meanwhile, the Wings’ boss provided an update on his squad after a number of players suffered bouts of illness prior to last weekend’s FA Trophy victory over Havant & Waterlooville. 

“It’s been good all week,” he said. 

“We’ve had a few cases of illness which has been carrying on from before the Havant game, but the lads are in good form and some of them got minutes on Tuesday night. 

“It’s three games unbeaten now, not including the Kent Senior Cup game, so we need to go on a little run and, hopefully, that can continue on Saturday, but it will be a tough game.”

“We’ve just got to be careful,” added Feeney. 

“It’s the time of year where you’re going to pick up injuries and illnesses so you’ve just got to get on with it. 

“We’ve got good enough boys here who I believe in to step in, but it’s good to have those players back because it’s a big plus to add to the squad.”
