Welling United make a long-awaited return to action with a trip to Chelmsford City on Saturday.
The Wings have been without match action for a fortnight following the postponements of the fixtures against Chippenham Town and Hemel Hempstead Town last week due to the recent cold snap and will be heading to Essex looking to make amends after suffering back-to-back defeats.
Warren Feeney’s men currently sit in 14th position in Vanarama National League South, 10 points off the play-off positions and will welcome back Stefan Payne following a two-match suspension, while Myles Roberts is expected to return between the sticks having recovered from a minor hand injury.
THE OPPOSITION
Chelmsford City are enjoying an impressive season, so far, as they continue their hunt for success in the play-offs come May.
The Clarets come into the game in fourth place with 14 wins, five draws and seven defeats from their 26 games, so far.
Their last outing saw them come away from Weymouth with a 2-1 victory last Saturday, although their last home league encounter saw them be defeated 1-0 by Chippenham Town on January 7th which kicked off a run of three straight defeats – a penalty shootout defeat to York City in the FA Trophy followed, before a 2-0 defeat at Ebbsfleet United.
PRE-MATCH CHAT
Warren Feeney: “You train all week to be a footballer on Saturday, so with the games called off recently, they should be like a pack of wolves out there come this Saturday.
“I know Chelmsford have played a couple of games, but we have to just concentrate on ourselves and make sure we take this good week of training into the game.”
Wings defender, Manny Parry: “The boys have a lot of energy because we haven’t played for so long! It’s been frustrating because, as a footballer, you just want to play games, so we’re ready to get back out there.”
