Welling United are delighted to confirm the arrival of right-back Crossley Lema.
The 24-year old has caught the eye in the Isthmian League Premier Division in recent seasons with Margate and Carshalton Athletic, winning the Robins’ Player of the Year award for his sparking displays last term.
That has prompted new boss Danny Bloor to move quickly to tempt the full-back to Park View Road ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Speaking about his latest signing as Wings boss, Bloor said: “Crossley is a player who was managed by a good friend of mine, Steve McKim, at Carshalton last season and we really do feel he’s a player that can step up to the level.
“For a defender, he really has an eye for goal at set-pieces. I think he’ll soon become a firm favourite of the fans.
“It feels good to be a Welling player,” added Lema.
“It’s obviously a step up for me, but I’m ready for the challenge. I’ve always felt like I’ve deserved that step up to step two. I’ve played a few seasons consistently at step three and I’ve been waiting for that opportunity to do that, so I’m really happy that’s come.
“It’s exciting for me and it’s a chance to kick on. I just have to work hard, keep my head down and use this opportunity to kick on and become a better player.”
Lema began his career through the youth ranks at Sutton United, taking in loans with Leatherhead and Walton Casuals, before making a permanent move to Leatherhead in 2020. His immediate progression saw him step up to the Isthmian Premier after one season and he now joins the Wings looking to make an impression in the National League South.
Season tickets for the 2023/24 campaign are now on sale with ahead of the new season as the club celebrates its 60th anniversary.
