Welling United will be hoping to take another step closer to the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup when they head to Gosport Borough in the third qualifying round of the competition on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

The Wings began this season’s FA Cup campaign in memorable fashion with a 3-2 win at rivals Dartford in the last round, thanks to Antony Papadopoulos’ hat-trick at Princes Park and Danny Bloor has set his eyes on two more victories to ensure his side can reach the achievement of a place in round one and a potential shot at some of the big boys of the EFL.

Danny Bloor has one injury concern in Lewis White, whose fitness will be assessed ahead of the club clash in Hampshire.

THE OPPOSITION

Gosport have started their season in impressive fashion, losing just one of their 12 games in all competitions, so far, winning 10 and drawing one.

Their fine form sees them sit top of the Southern League Premier table with 25 points from their 10 league outings.

Their FA Cup campaign began with a 7-2 victory over Laverstock & Ford in the first qualifying round, before earning a meeting with the Wings with a 3-0 home victory over Cribbs in the second qualifying round a fortnight ago.

PRE-MATCH CHAT

Danny Bloor: “Gosport are a good side, make no mistake about it. Any side that’s top of the league is good. They’re a strong side, well-drilled and efficient so it won’t be easy, but we were successful in the last round at Dartford, so we can go down there with confidence.

“It’s the greatest cup competition in the world. Whoever wins on Saturday will be 90 minutes away from a potential tie against a Derby County or a club of that ilk – it’s massive for all non-League clubs.”
