Welling United begin the festive period with a trip to Twerton Park to take on Bath City on Saturday (3pm).
The last game before Christmas provides the Wings with the opportunity to pick up three vital points on the road as they look to climb the Vanarama National League South table and will hope to bounce back following last weekend’s defeat at home to Eastbourne Borough.
Danny Bloor’s men come into the game off the back of two wins, two defeats and a draw in their last five outings in all competitions and will want to banish the ghosts of their previous trips to the south west so far, this term, which has seen them taste defeat at Truro, Taunton, Torquay and West-super-Mare.
THE OPPOSITION
Bath have hopes of a play-off push this term and currently sit in eighth position with 34 points, only outside the top seven on goal difference.
They are, however, without a victory in their last five league games picking up three draws and two defeats, most recently sharing a goalless draw at Dover Athletic last Saturday.
Jerry Gill’s side have secured nine wins, seven draws and six defeats from their 22 games, so far.
PRE-MATCH CHAT
Danny Bloor: “We’ve been poor on the road and we need to fix that. I always look forward to the festive period and we have some big games to look forward to over the next week or so, starting with that trip to Bath.”
Bath City boss, Jerry Gill: “We’re strong at home. We’ll be looking to win the game, but we’ll need to prepare properly.”
LAST TIME OUT
The Romans came away from the reverse fixture with three points from a narrow 1-0 win at the J Hearnden Sjip Hire Community Stadium back in September – Jordan Thomas netting the only goal of the game after 20 minutes.
The Wings’ last trip to Twerton Park came last December with Taylor Maloney netting a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
