Tasmin Miah reports from the J Hearden Skip Hire Community Stadium
Welling United shared a goalless draw with Taunton Town on Saturday afternoon. Although the Wings gain a point from the draw, they were unable to further close the gap between themselves and their opponents to improve their chances of moving out of the relegation zone.
In the early minutes of the first half, Tristan Abrahams had an attempt to secure the early lead, heading just wide, while Antony Papadopoulos sent another effort curling wide from distance.
Taunton, meanwhile, had their fair share of chances, one potential from a free kick. However, the Wings cleared the effort to try an avoid conceding first. The first half remained goalless between the sides, proving to be a closely show-contested fixture.
With the second half under way, a great attempt from the Wings would have seen the first goal of the game. The ball fell to Adam Roscrow, however, the deflected shot went wide for a corner.
Two more efforts from Abrahams and Cameron Green saw decent chances to get ahead come and go, but the hosts pushing for that elusive opener, their task became greater when they were. reduced to 10 men, for the second game running, when Dominic Odusanya was shown a straight red card for a high challenge.
Despite having the numerical disadvantage, Welling kept pushing.
Taunton, however, enjoyed the better of the closing stages. In the last few minutes, Reice Charles-Cook pushed away what was the final chance of the game and it remained goalless in the end, both sides win a point each.
The Wings return to action on Wednesday evening to host local neighbours Charlton Athletic in the second round of the London Senior Cup.
