Welling United are delighted to confirm the appointment of Jim Stannard as first-team Goalkeeper Coach.
Stannard arrives with a wealth of experience having enjoyed an extensive playing career in the Football League, wracking up 446 appearances between the sticks for Fulham, as well as over 100 appearances each for Southend United and Gillingham.
Following retirement, he has served as Goalkeeper Coach at Gillingham and Brentford, while also spending a stint on the touchline as Manager of Redbridge in 2005.
Stannard’s coaching career took him to Crystal Palace before he was named Goalkeeper Coach at Southampton in 2011 under Nigel Adkins, winning promotion to the Premier League at the end of his first season at St Mary’s.
Spells with Chelmsford City, Dagenham & Redbridge, Bromley, Maidstone United and, latterly, Dartford followed and he now joins Wings boss Rod Stringer as part of his backroom staff ahead of the 2024/25 season.
“I’ve known Rod a long time – an opportunity came up to come to Welling and work with him so I’m very happy.
“I had a decent playing career and a terrific coaching career as well, so hopefully I can now use that experience to help Rod out.”
