Welling United are delighted to confirm the return of midfielder Gene Kennedy to the club on a permanent basis.
Kennedy initially arrived at Park View Road on loan from Colchester United in February and went on the play a key part in the Wings’ successful fight against relegation under Rod Stringer and is now here to stay following his release by the U’s this summer.
The 21-year-old midfielder made 12 first-team appearances for the League Two side, including six league outings before embarking on a loan spell with Braintree Town in 2023.
After signing for Welling on loan in February, he impressed during his 16 league appearances, scoring once in the 3-2 home victory over Truro City.
Speaking after re-signing with the Wings, Kennedy said: “I had the loan last year and I loved it – working with Rod, Kev and the boys. I enjoyed the battle of staying up and, hopefully, this season we’re up there.
“If we can play like we were under Rod and Kev last season, it will be really exciting. I’ve had a nice summer, but I can’t wait to be back out there.”
