Welling United hit the road and head to West Sussex on Tuesday evening as they take on Worthing (7.45pm).

After back-to-back league defeats, the Wings will be looking to bounce back at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium in search of a first away victory of the season.

Rod Stringer will welcome back Charlie Pegrum from suspension, but will be checking on the fitness of Jack Burchell after the defender was forced off with illness at half-time on Saturday.

Chiori Johnson could return to the squad as he nears full fitness, but Teddy Perkins, TJ Bramble and Ben Wells remain doubtful alongside long-term absentees Zain Walker and Harvey Walker.

THE OPPOSITION

After the heartbreak of a play-off final defeat last season, Worthing have had a somewhat inconsistent start to this campaign with three wins, four draws and two defeats from their nine games, so far, leaving them 16th in the table, three points ahead of the Wings.

They come into the midweek clash off the back of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Maidstone United at home on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT

The Rebels earned a 2-0 victory the last time the sides met at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium back in September 2023, but the Wings won out 4-1 winners in the reverse fixture in February.

10-man Welling United put on a show under the lights with an excellent first-half performance which saw the Wings go into the break one goal to the good thanks to Anthony Grant, before Reece Grant doubled the advantage in the second half.

A controversial penalty saw the visitors pull a goal back, before A Grant was sent off late on, but the home side stood firm at the break and caught Worthing on the break twice in injury time as Sonny Fish bagged himself a brace to round off the scoring in style.
