Welling United face their second game on home turf in four days as they host Boreham Wood at Park View Road on Saturday (3pm).

Rod Stringer will be looking for a reaction from his Wings side after a disappointing second half in midweek saw them suffer a 3-2 defeat to Hampton & Richmond despite a good first-half showing.

They remain nine points clear of the drop zone in 19th position going into this weekend’s clash against the high-flying Wood.

Rhys Lovett remains unavailable with a knee complaint, while Elliot Long is also a doubt. Welling will also have to check on the fitness of Sam Cornish after he missed out on Tuesday with the injury which saw him limp off against Torquay United last Saturday, meanwhile Anthony Grant is another injury doubt after he was forced off early in the second half in midweek.

Although Harvey Walker is stepping up his return to fitness following a broken leg, he will remain on the sidelines on Saturday.

THE OPPOSITION

Boreham Wood are looking for  an immediate return to the National League following relegation last term and have enjoyed a  solid season, so far, putting themselves heavily in contention for the coveted top spot.

They come into the game in fourth position, four points off league-leaders Torquay United with a game in hand, having earned 13 wins, seven draws and four defeats from their 24 games played.

Luke Garrard’s men are unbeaten in their last nine 12 games in all competitions, winning 10 and drawing two, with their most recent outing coming in the FA Trophy, beating Weymouth 2-1 away from home a fortnight ago.

LAST TIME OUT

The 10-man Wings suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Boreham Wood in the reverse fixture back in September.

Three goals in the first half made it an uphill struggle, before the Wings emerged with a bit more fight after the break.

But substitute Charlie Pegrum’s controversial second-half dismissal knocked the stuffing out of the visitors, before Boreham Wood added another three to put some gloss on their scoreline.
