Welling United are delighted to confirm the arrival of experienced forward James Alabi.

The 30-year-old frontman emerged through the academy at Stoke City where he took in loans with Scunthorpe United, Mansfield Town, Forest Green Rovers and Accrington Stanley.

Alabi made the move to Ipswich Town in 2015, scoring on his debut in a  4-1 win over Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup, before joining Grimbsy Town on loan. This was swiftly followed by a permanent  switch to Chester in January 2016.

He impressed in the National League over an 18-month stay with Chester, bagging 23 goals in 53 league starts, earning a move to Tranmere Rovers in 2017.

A loan stint with Dover Athletic was followed by a transfer to Leyton Orient a year later and he played his part toward helping the O’s to the National League title. In total, he made 40 appearances while at Brisbane Road over two seasons, scoring three times.

Eastleigh would be Alabi’s next stop on loan, before he found a home at Bromley in 2020 where he proved to be a popular member of the Ravens’ squad, helping them to the National League play-offs in his first season, before playing his part on their FA Trophy-winning road to Wembley the following season, gaining 82 appearances under his belt and finding the net 14 times during his time at Hayes Lane.

Since then, Alabi has spent a further season in the National League with Maidstone United, before joining Bath City last term.

He then joined Eastbourne Borough in December, making two appearances for the Sports and now arrives at Park View Road as Rod Stringer looks to boost his options in the attacking third.
