Welling United were made to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw with Slough Town at Park View Road on Saturday.

The Wings surrendered a two-goal lead after Scott Kashket has scored twice in two minutes midway through the first half – a Rebels comeback after the break ensuring that it would be a share of the spoils.

The hosts made a great start in the south-London sunshine with Deon Moore heading over with 13 minutes on the clock, before Kashket lit up DA16 with a quickfire double.

Moore claimed the assist for the first, getting breaking forward to get to the byline and lay it on a plater for Kashket to finish from close range.

And just a minute later, the Welling forward was at it again, turning nicely in the box and looping an effort over the keeper from a tight angle to make it 2-0 and put his side in control.

Kashket could have been celebrating a hat-trick just another minute later when he was played through again, but this time his effort was saved by Charlie Horlock in the Rebels’ goal.

Just before the break, Welling came even closer to a third when a right-wing cross was very nearly  headed home by Riccardo Di Trolio, but he just could not get that killer touch from close range.

Emerging for the second half, Slough were determined to regain a foothold on proceedings and they did just that 11 minutes after the restart.

A free-kick from right was met by the glancing head of Josh Jackman too take it into the net and reduce the away side’s arrears to one.

In truth, Welling had their backs against the wall for the majority of the second half as they looked too keep their opponents at bay, but the visitors continued to turn the screw without really creating anything clear cut.

That was until the 84th minute when the Rebels levelled. A ball through to Johnny Goddard saw the midfielder pounce on the opportunity and finish confidently past Rhys Lovett for 2-2.

There would be one last chance for the Wings to bag a winner at the death when Moore met a corner with a free header in injury time, but Horlock made the save.

Next up for Rod Stringer’s men is the long trip to Truro City next weekend.
