Welling United got another valuable runout under their belts from a friendly clash with League One promotion hopefuls Leyton Orient at the Kuflink Stadium on Wednesday evening.

A strong Orient side taught the Wings a rather harsh footballing lesson, netting five first-half goals through Demetri Mitchell, Zech Obiero (2), Aaron Connolly, Azeem Abdulai, before making it 10 come full-time with no response.

The east Londoners made wholesale changes at the break, while Welling made nine themselves, but the balance of the game followed suit into the second half.

Josh Koroma (2), Sonny Perkins (2), Zach Hambury all found the net as Orient reached double figures in Kent.

The evening proved to be a steep learning experience for Lee Martin’s men, whose next pre-season test comes with a trip to Heybridge Swifts next Tuesday evening.

Welling United: Huk (West-Astuti 46), O’Neill (Lewis 46), Majoyegbe, Simmons (Vaughan 46), Sinai (Simmons 71), Ufuah (Carvalho 46), Bloom, Cundle (J Leahy 46), Andrews (J Leahy 46), Trialist A (Dyer 46), Paxman (Trialist B 46).

Leyton Orient (first half): Cahill, James, Happe, O’Neill, Connolly, Mitchell, Beckles, Abdulai, Clare, Obiero.
